Product Details
Mushroom Grow Bags from Pakistan
Mushroom grow bags are the modern standard for commercial mushroom production, replacing traditional bed and tray systems with a cleaner, more controllable, and scalable format. Each bag contains a precisely formulated substrate (hardwood sawdust, wheat straw, rice straw, or custom blends supplemented with wheat bran or rice bran), hydrated to optimal moisture, and heat-treated to eliminate competing organisms. The bags are fitted with a microporous filter patch that allows gas exchange while preventing contamination. DaaTrade offers bags at two stages of production to suit different buyer capabilities.
Specifications
Pasteurised Substrate Bags
Stage: Sterilised/pasteurised, ready for spawn inoculation
Substrate: Hardwood sawdust, wheat straw, rice straw, or custom blend
Supplement: Wheat bran, rice bran, or soybean meal (10-20% of dry weight)
Moisture Content: 60-65%
pH: 5.5-7.0 (substrate-dependent)
Sterilisation: Autoclave at 121°C for 2-3 hours, or pasteurisation at 65-80°C for 12-18 hours
Bag Size: 2 kg, 3 kg, 5 kg substrate weight
Bag Material: Polypropylene with 0.2-0.5 micron filter patch
Shelf Life: 2-4 weeks from production (refrigerated)
Contamination Rate: < 2% (quality-controlled production)
Spawn-Run (Colonised) Bags
Stage: Fully colonised with live mycelium, ready to fruit
Substrate: Same as above, inoculated and incubated
Spawn Type: Grain spawn (wheat, millet, or sorghum based)
Spawn Rate: 5-10% of substrate weight
Colonisation: 100% mycelium coverage, firm white block
Incubation Period: 14-30 days (species-dependent)
Bag Size: 2 kg, 3 kg, 5 kg substrate weight
Mushroom Varieties: Oyster (grey, pink, yellow, blue), king oyster, shiitake, lion’s mane, reishi
Ready to Fruit: Within 3-7 days of opening/cutting bag and exposing to fruiting conditions
Expected Yield: 20-30% of substrate weight over 2-3 flushes (species-dependent)
Two Stages Explained
Pasteurised Substrate Bags (Stage 1)
These bags contain properly formulated, hydrated, and heat-treated substrate that is free from competing moulds, bacteria, and insects. The buyer inoculates the bags with their own mushroom spawn at their facility, incubates them for 2-4 weeks until fully colonised, then initiates fruiting. This stage is for mushroom farms that have their own spawn production or preferred spawn supplier and want to control the inoculation and incubation process in-house. Pasteurised bags are more affordable per unit and have a longer shipping window since there is no live mycelium requiring temperature control during transit.
Spawn-Run (Colonised) Bags (Stage 2)
These bags have already been inoculated with mushroom spawn, incubated for 2-4 weeks, and are fully colonised with white mycelium throughout the substrate block. The buyer simply cuts or punctures the bag, places it in a fruiting environment (humidity 85-95%, temperature 15-25°C, indirect light, fresh air exchange), and harvests mushrooms within 7-14 days. This stage is for farms, restaurants, retailers, urban farms, and hobbyists who want a turnkey, ready-to-fruit product with no inoculation or incubation needed. Spawn-run bags require temperature-controlled shipping (15-25°C) and have a shorter shelf life.
Available Mushroom Varieties
Grey Oyster (Pleurotus ostreatus): The most widely cultivated and easiest-to-grow gourmet mushroom. Fast coloniser, heavy yielder, tolerant of a wide range of temperatures
Pink Oyster (Pleurotus djamor): Tropical variety, bright pink colour, fast fruiting, mild seafood-like flavour
Yellow/Golden Oyster (Pleurotus citrinopileatus): Bright yellow clusters, delicate flavour, grows well in warm conditions
Blue Oyster (Pleurotus columbinus): Cool-weather variety, dark blue-grey caps, robust flavour
King Oyster (Pleurotus eryngii): Thick, meaty stem, premium gourmet mushroom, requires cooler temperatures
Shiitake (Lentinula edodes): World’s second most cultivated mushroom, rich umami flavour, requires hardwood sawdust substrate
Lion’s Mane (Hericium erinaceus): White, cascading icicle-like fruiting body, brain-health superfood, requires hardwood sawdust
Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum): Medicinal mushroom, grown for supplement and extract production rather than culinary use
Industrial Uses
Commercial mushroom farms: Pasteurised and spawn-run bags supply commercial mushroom operations of all sizes, from small urban farms to large-scale production facilities. Outsourcing substrate preparation allows farms to focus on fruiting, harvesting, and marketing
Restaurant and hotel on-site growing: Spawn-run bags enable restaurants, hotels, and catering companies to grow fresh mushrooms on-site, harvesting minutes before serving for maximum freshness and visual appeal
Urban farming and vertical farms: Mushroom grow bags are ideal for indoor, urban, and vertical farming operations where space efficiency and controlled-environment production are essential
Retail and consumer grow kits: Spawn-run bags are repackaged and branded as retail mushroom grow kits for home growers, garden centres, and gift shops
Education and agri-training: Grow bags are used in agricultural training programs, school projects, and university mycology courses as hands-on mushroom cultivation teaching tools
Medicinal mushroom production: Reishi, lion’s mane, and other medicinal species are grown on sawdust-based grow bags for supplement, extract, and tincture production
Quality Assurance
Each production batch is monitored for substrate formulation, moisture content, sterilisation temperature and duration, contamination rate, and colonisation completeness (spawn-run bags). Random bags from each batch are opened and inspected for contamination before shipment. Spawn-run bags are visually inspected for full mycelium coverage, absence of competitor moulds (Trichoderma, Penicillium, Aspergillus), and bag integrity. Pre-shipment photos and samples can be arranged.
