Pakistani metallurgical-grade fluorspar for steelmaking, iron foundry and ferro-alloy flux applications
Metallurgical-grade fluorspar, 60-85% CaF₂. Lumps and gravel. Price on inquiry, shipped from Karachi.
Metallurgical-grade fluorspar (metspar) is a natural calcium fluoride mineral used as a fluxing agent in pyrometallurgical processes. When added to molten metal and slag, fluorspar lowers the melting point, reduces viscosity, and improves the fluidity of the slag, allowing better separation of impurities from the metal. This results in cleaner steel, improved furnace productivity, and reduced energy consumption. Pakistan’s fluorspar deposits occur as hydrothermal vein and replacement-type mineralization, yielding amber-brown to purple crystalline ore with CaF₂ content ranging from 60% to 85%.

Steelmaking flux (BOF/EAF): Fluorspar is added to basic oxygen furnaces (BOF) and electric arc furnaces (EAF) at 3-10 kg per tonne of steel to improve slag fluidity, promote desulphurization, and assist dephosphorization. It is the most effective and widely used flux in steelmaking
Steel ladle refining: Fluorspar is added to the ladle refining furnace (LRF) slag to improve fluidity and enhance desulphurization during secondary steelmaking. Low-sulphur and ultra-low-sulphur steel grades require fluorspar for effective slag-metal reactions
Iron foundry flux: Fluorspar is charged into cupola and induction furnaces in iron foundries to promote slag fluidity and improve the separation of non-metallic inclusions from molten iron
Ferro-alloy production: Fluorspar is used as a flux in submerged arc furnaces producing ferromanganese, ferrosilicon, ferrochrome, and other ferro-alloys. It reduces slag viscosity and improves alloy recovery
Blast furnace ironmaking: Small additions of fluorspar to the blast furnace burden improve slag fluidity and aid in the removal of alkali build-up in the furnace lining
Non-ferrous smelting: Fluorspar flux is used in copper, lead, zinc, and aluminium smelting to improve slag chemistry and metal recovery
Cement manufacturing: Fluorspar is added to cement raw mix at 0.5-1% as a mineralizer, lowering the clinker burning temperature and reducing kiln fuel consumption
Welding flux: Fluorspar is a key ingredient in welding rod coatings and submerged arc welding flux formulations
