Product Details

Medium-Grade Chromite Ore (38–42% Cr₂O₃) from Pakistan

Medium-grade chromite ore sits between the chemical/refractory grades (30–36%) and the premium metallurgical grades (46%+) in terms of chromium content and commercial value. It is one of the most traded chromite grades globally, used as feedstock for charge chrome furnaces, refractory plants, and chemical processors. Pakistan’s Balochistan chromite belt produces this grade in significant commercial volumes from both open-pit and underground mining operations.

Typical Composition

  • Cr₂O₃: 38–42%

  • FeO: 16–22%

  • MgO: 12–18%

  • Al₂O₃: 10–16%

  • SiO₂: 2–6%

  • CaO: < 0.5%

  • P: < 0.01%

  • S: < 0.01%

  • Cr:Fe Ratio: 2:1 to 2.5:1

Available Forms

  • Run-of-mine (ROM) lumps: 10–250 mm

  • Crushed lumps: 10–50 mm, 0–10 mm

  • Gravity concentrates (fines): 0–3 mm

  • Custom sizing available

Industrial Uses

  • Charge chrome smelting: Feedstock for charge chrome (50–55% Cr) and high-carbon ferrochrome furnaces where premium metallurgical-grade ore is not required

  • Refractory manufacturing: Chrome-mag and mag-chrome bricks for steel converters, EAF sidewalls, cement rotary kilns, and non-ferrous smelters

  • Chemical manufacturing: Production of sodium dichromate, chromium trioxide, chrome sulfate, and chrome oxide green pigment

  • Foundry sand: Chromite sand for steel, iron, and aluminium casting molds and cores

  • Welding consumables: Chromite fines as a flux and coating ingredient in welding electrodes and wires

  • Pigment and tanning: Chrome-based pigments for paints and ceramics; chromium sulfate for leather tanning

Quality Assurance

Each lot includes a Certificate of Analysis reporting Cr₂O₃, FeO, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, MgO, CaO, P, S, moisture, and size distribution. Pre-shipment samples are provided for buyer approval. Third-party inspection (SGS, Intertek, or equivalent) can be arranged on request.

Why Source From Pakistan?

Pakistan is one of the world’s leading producers of chromite ore, with the Balochistan chromite belt hosting dozens of active mines. Medium-grade chromite (38–42% Cr₂O₃) is available in steady commercial volumes year-round, backed by decades of established mining and export activity. Competitive extraction costs, short haulage to Karachi port, and well-developed export infrastructure make Pakistani chromite a cost-efficient feedstock for charge chrome smelters, refractory plants, and chemical manufacturers across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. DaaTrade consolidates sourcing from multiple verified mines, ensuring consistent grade, reliable supply, and full export documentation through one desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Our medium-grade chromite typically contains 38–42% Cr₂O₃ with a Cr:Fe ratio of 2:1 to 2.5:1, sourced from active mines in Balochistan. The exact chemistry is reported on the Certificate of Analysis for each lot. We can supply lots within a narrower Cr₂O₃ range (e.g. 40–42%) subject to availability and volume commitment.

A: Metallurgical-grade chromite has 46%+ Cr₂O₃ and a Cr:Fe ratio above 2.8:1, specified for high-carbon and low-carbon ferrochrome production and stainless steelmaking. Medium-grade (38–42% Cr₂O₃) has a lower Cr:Fe ratio and is used primarily for charge chrome smelting, refractory production, and chemical manufacturing. Medium-grade is more cost-effective and more readily available in large volumes from Pakistani mines.

A: We handle shipments from single 20' containers (approx. 25 MT) to bulk vessel parcels of 5,000–15,000 MT. Containerized shipments use 1 MT jumbo bags or 50 kg bags. Bulk vessel loading is arranged at Karachi Port for larger volumes. We can also consolidate smaller lots from multiple mines to meet your tonnage and grade requirements.
