Product Details

Acid-Grade Fluorspar from Pakistan

Fluorspar (fluorite) is a calcium fluoride mineral (CaF₂) and the world’s primary source of fluorine. Acid-grade fluorspar is the highest purity commercial grade, requiring a minimum 97% CaF₂ content with strict limits on silica, carbonate, and sulphide impurities. It is produced by beneficiating run-of-mine fluorspar through heavy media separation, flotation, or a combination of both. Pakistan’s fluorspar deposits occur in hydrothermal vein and replacement-type mineralization across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the northern geological formations. The ore occurs in characteristic pale green, purple, white, and colourless crystalline forms.

Industrial Uses

  • Hydrofluoric acid (HF) production: Acid-grade fluorspar is reacted with sulphuric acid in rotary kilns to produce hydrofluoric acid, the essential starting material for all downstream fluorine chemistry. HF production is the single largest consumer of acid-grade fluorspar globally

  • Fluorocarbon refrigerants: HF derived from fluorspar is used to manufacture HFC and HFO refrigerants (R-134a, R-410A, R-1234yf) for air conditioning, refrigeration, and heat pump systems

  • Fluoropolymers: HF is converted to fluoropolymer monomers (TFE, VDF, HFP) for producing PTFE (Teflon), PVDF, FEP, and other high-performance fluoropolymers used in chemical processing, electronics, automotive, and aerospace

  • Aluminium smelting: Synthetic cryolite (Na₃AlF₆) and aluminium fluoride (AlF₃) produced from HF are essential bath additives in the Hall-Heroult aluminium smelting process, lowering the electrolysis temperature and improving energy efficiency

  • Uranium enrichment: Uranium hexafluoride (UF₆) produced from HF is the feedstock for uranium enrichment by gaseous diffusion and gas centrifuge processes in the nuclear fuel cycle

  • Pharmaceutical and agrochemical: Fluorine from HF is incorporated into many pharmaceutical drugs (fluorinated antibiotics, antidepressants, anti-cancer agents) and agrochemicals (fluorinated herbicides and insecticides)

  • Electronics: HF and fluorine gases derived from fluorspar are used in semiconductor etching, flat panel display manufacturing, and solar cell production

  • Lithium-ion batteries: Lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF₆) electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries is produced from HF, creating growing demand from the EV sector

Quality Assurance

Each lot includes a Certificate of Analysis reporting CaF₂, SiO₂, CaCO₃, S, P₂O₅, As, Fe₂O₃, BaSO₄, moisture, and particle size distribution. Acid-grade fluorspar is tested to strict international specifications. Pre-shipment samples are provided for buyer approval. Third-party inspection (SGS, Intertek, or equivalent) can be arranged on request.

Why Source From Pakistan?

Pakistan has fluorspar deposits across multiple geological formations, with beneficiation plants capable of producing acid-grade specification material (97%+ CaF₂). As global demand for fluorine-based products grows, driven by refrigerants, fluoropolymers, lithium-ion batteries, and semiconductors, diversified supply sources are increasingly important for HF producers and chemical manufacturers. Pakistani acid-grade fluorspar offers competitive pricing and an alternative origin to traditional suppliers in China, Mexico, and South Africa. Established mineral export logistics through Karachi port ensure reliable shipments. DaaTrade manages sourcing, beneficiation quality control, packaging, documentation and shipment through one export desk.

Shipping

Loading port: Karachi Port or Port Qasim. Containerized or bulk vessel shipment depending on quantity. Fluorspar is non-hazardous and straightforward to ship. Acid-grade fluorspar must be kept dry during transport to maintain specification. Containers are lined to prevent moisture ingress. Incoterms: FOB, CFR, CIF. Documents: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin, Certificate of Analysis, Weight Certificate, Bill of Lading.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Our acid-grade fluorspar meets the international specification of minimum 97% CaF₂ with SiO₂ below 1%. Most lots assay 97-98.5% CaF₂ with SiO₂ at 0.5-0.8%. Sulphur, phosphorus, and arsenic are held to strict limits (< 0.03%, < 0.03%, < 0.01% respectively) as these elements are detrimental to HF production. The exact chemistry is reported on the Certificate of Analysis for each lot.

A: Acid-grade fluorspar (acidspar) requires minimum 97% CaF₂ with very low impurities, and is used for hydrofluoric acid production and downstream fluorochemicals. Metallurgical-grade fluorspar (metspar) requires 60-85% CaF₂ and is used as a flux in steelmaking and iron foundries. Acid-grade commands a significant price premium due to its higher purity and the more demanding beneficiation required to achieve specification.

A: Fluorspar is classified as a critical mineral by the EU, US, and other major economies because fluorine has no substitute in most of its applications (HF, refrigerants, fluoropolymers, aluminium smelting, uranium processing), and global supply is concentrated in a few countries (China produces over 60%). Growing demand from EV batteries (LiPF₆ electrolyte), heat pumps (HFO refrigerants), and semiconductors is further tightening supply. Diversified sourcing from origins like Pakistan is increasingly important for end-users managing supply chain risk.
