Product Details

Green Onyx from Pakistan

Green Onyx is a translucent, banded variety of calcite (calcium carbonate) formed in caves and fissures by the slow precipitation of mineral-rich water over thousands of years. The result is a layered stone with vivid green coloration, flowing swirl patterns, and a natural translucency that allows light to pass through thin slabs. The green tones range from deep emerald to soft olive, interwoven with veins and patches of white, cream, honey, and rust-brown. Pakistan is recognized globally as a premium source of Green Onyx, with quarries in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa producing blocks with exceptional color intensity and translucency.

Available Forms

  • Raw Blocks: quarry-extracted, for processing at the importer’s facility

  • Slabs: cut to standard or custom dimensions, 15-20 mm thickness for backlighting, 20-30 mm for standard use

  • Tiles: 30x30, 60x60, 120x60 cm and custom formats

  • Backlit panels: slabs cut to 10-15 mm for maximum light transmission, with or without mesh backing

  • Custom shapes: circular, oval, and curved cuts for decorative installations

Surface Finishes

Polished, Honed, Brushed. Polished is the most popular as it intensifies the green coloration and maximizes translucency.

Industrial Uses

  • Backlit feature walls: Green Onyx panels mounted over LED light panels create a glowing, jewel-like wall feature in hotel lobbies, luxury residences, high-end retail, nightclubs, and spa reception areas. This is the stone’s signature application and the reason for its premium demand

  • Backlit bar and reception counters: Translucent Green Onyx countertops and bar fronts with integrated backlighting for five-star hotels, premium restaurants, and corporate reception desks

  • Luxury bathroom interiors: Full-height backlit shower walls, bathtub surrounds, vanity tops, and basin bowls in premium bathrooms and spa wet rooms

  • Elevator and lift cabs: Backlit Green Onyx panels in elevator interiors for luxury residential towers and five-star hotels

  • Flooring: Polished Green Onyx floor tiles in low-traffic luxury areas such as master bedrooms, dressing rooms, and private lounges

  • Furniture and decorative objects: Green Onyx tabletops, console surfaces, lamp bases, bowls, vases, and decorative accessories

  • Column cladding: Polished Green Onyx wraps for interior columns in hotel lobbies and retail spaces

  • Religious and cultural installations: Mosque mehrab panels, church altar surfaces, and temple decorative elements

Quality Assurance

Each shipment can be supplied with a material inspection report. Translucency grading (A, B, C) is available based on the degree of light transmission. Third-party pre-shipment inspection (SGS or equivalent) can be arranged on request. Slab selection, bookmatching, and color matching services are available. Mesh backing and resin treatment are applied to all slabs for structural reinforcement.

Why Source From Pakistan?

Pakistan is one of the world’s top Green Onyx producing countries, with quarries yielding blocks of exceptional color intensity, pattern variety, and translucency. The country has decades of experience quarrying, processing, and exporting onyx to markets across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and North America. Pakistani Green Onyx offers the same visual impact as Iranian and Afghan varieties at competitive FOB pricing, with the advantage of established export logistics through Karachi port. Modern processing facilities produce resin-treated, mesh-backed slabs ready for backlighting and architectural installation. DaaTrade manages sourcing, translucency grading, slab selection, quality verification, samples and export through one desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Yes. Green Onyx is one of the few natural stones with sufficient translucency for backlighting. Slabs cut to 10-15 mm thickness and mounted over LED panels create a dramatic, glowing effect. We supply backlit-ready panels that are resin-treated and mesh-backed for structural integrity. Translucency is graded (A = highest light transmission, B = medium, C = lower) so you can select the grade that matches your lighting design. We recommend warm white or neutral white LEDs for the most natural green glow.

A: Green Onyx is softer and more brittle than marble (compressive strength ≥ 60 MPa vs. ≥ 90 MPa for most marbles). All our onyx slabs are resin-treated to fill micro-fissures and mesh-backed for structural reinforcement. With proper installation on a flat, well-prepared substrate, onyx performs well in wall cladding, backlighting, countertops, and low-traffic flooring. It is not recommended for high-traffic commercial floor areas or outdoor paving.

A: We grade Green Onyx translucency as A (high), B (medium), and C (standard). Grade A slabs transmit the most light and produce the strongest glow when backlit. Grade B offers good translucency for most backlit installations. Grade C has lower light transmission but still works for semi-backlit or ambient-lit features. Pricing varies by grade. Please specify your translucency requirement when submitting your inquiry.
