Cement-Grade Bauxite from Pakistan
Cement-grade bauxite is a lower-cost grade of bauxite ore valued for its alumina content rather than its suitability for the Bayer process. It is the primary raw material for manufacturing high-alumina cement (calcium aluminate cement / CAC), which is used in refractory castables, rapid-setting construction applications, and specialty grouts. In ordinary Portland cement production, bauxite is added to the raw mix at 1-5% to correct the alumina ratio when the limestone and clay do not provide sufficient Al₂O₃. Pakistan’s bauxite deposits yield a reddish-brown, earthy ore with 40-52% Al₂O₃ that is well suited for cement industry use.

Industrial Uses
High-alumina cement (HAC/CAC): Cement-grade bauxite is the primary alumina source for producing calcium aluminate cement. Bauxite is fused or sintered with limestone at high temperatures to form calcium aluminate clinker, which is then ground into cement. HAC/CAC is used in refractory castables, rapid-hardening concrete, sewage infrastructure, and chemical-resistant construction
OPC raw mix correction: Bauxite fines are added to ordinary Portland cement raw mix when the natural limestone and clay do not supply enough Al₂O₃ for proper clinker formation. Typical addition rate is 1-5% of the raw mix
White cement production: Low-iron bauxite is used as an alumina source in white cement manufacturing where Fe₂O₃ must be kept below 0.5%
Calcium aluminate production: Bauxite fused with limestone produces calcium aluminate (CA) for use as a binder in refractory castables, self-leveling floor compounds, and rapid-setting repair mortars
Expanded aggregate: Bauxite is used in producing lightweight expanded clay aggregate (LECA) and similar construction aggregates
Slag conditioning: Bauxite is added to steelmaking slag to increase Al₂O₃ content and improve slag fluidity in ladle refining operations
Proppants: Lower-grade bauxite is sintered into proppant beads for oil and gas hydraulic fracturing
Quality Assurance
Each lot includes a Certificate of Analysis reporting Al₂O₃, SiO₂, Fe₂O₃, TiO₂, CaO, MgO, Na₂O+K₂O, LOI, moisture, and size distribution. Pre-shipment samples are provided for buyer approval. Third-party inspection (SGS, Intertek, or equivalent) can be arranged on request.

A: Our cement-grade bauxite contains 40-52% Al₂O₃ and 10-25% Fe₂O₃ depending on the source deposit. For OPC raw mix correction, higher Fe₂O₃ content is acceptable. For high-alumina cement (HAC/CAC) production, lower Fe₂O₃ is preferred. For white cement, Fe₂O₃ must be below 0.5%, which requires sourcing from specific low-iron deposits. The exact chemistry is reported on the Certificate of Analysis for each lot. Please specify your Al₂O₃ and Fe₂O₃ targets when requesting a quote.
A: Metallurgical-grade bauxite (45-55% Al₂O₃) is refined into alumina through the Bayer process for aluminium production. It requires low reactive silica and a high Al₂O₃/SiO₂ ratio for economic Bayer processing. Cement-grade bauxite (40-52% Al₂O₃) is used for its alumina content in cement manufacturing and does not need to meet Bayer process specifications. It typically has higher iron and silica content, which is acceptable for cement applications. Cement-grade is more widely available and lower-priced than metallurgical-grade.
