Product Details

Magnetite Iron Ore from Pakistan

Magnetite is a naturally magnetic iron oxide mineral (Fe₃O₄) with a characteristic dark grey to black metallic lustre. It is the most iron-rich of all common minerals, containing up to 72% Fe in its pure form. Magnetite’s strong magnetic properties allow it to be efficiently upgraded through magnetic separation, producing high-grade concentrates suitable for pellet feed, blast furnace charge, and specialty industrial applications. Pakistan’s geological formations host magnetite deposits that are actively mined and beneficiated for both domestic use and export.

Available Forms

  • Run-of-mine (ROM) lumps: 10-200 mm

  • Crushed ore: 0-50 mm, 0-25 mm

  • Fines: 0-10 mm

  • Magnetic concentrates: 62-68% Fe (wet or dry magnetic separation)

  • Pellet-grade concentrates: 65-68% Fe, ground to -325 mesh

  • Custom sizing and grades available

Industrial Uses

  • Blast furnace ironmaking: Magnetite lumps and sinter made from magnetite fines are charged into blast furnaces as part of the iron burden. Magnetite releases heat during reduction (exothermic reaction) which improves furnace energy efficiency

  • Pelletizing: Magnetite concentrates ground to fine size (-325 mesh) are the preferred feedstock for iron ore pellet plants due to their exothermic behavior during induration, reducing fuel consumption in pellet kilns

  • Direct Reduced Iron (DRI): High-grade magnetite pellets (65%+ Fe) are used as feed in gas-based and coal-based DRI plants for sponge iron production

  • Heavy media separation (HMS/DMS): Finely ground magnetite (ferrosilicon replacement) is used as a dense medium in coal washing, diamond recovery, and mineral beneficiation plants. The magnetic property allows easy recovery and recycling of the medium

  • Coal washing: Magnetite powder is the standard dense medium in coal preparation plants for separating clean coal from refuse and middlings

  • Water treatment: Magnetite nanoparticles and powder are used in advanced water treatment processes for heavy metal removal, phosphate adsorption, and magnetic flocculation

  • Concrete and radiation shielding: High-density magnetite aggregates are used in heavyweight concrete for radiation shielding in nuclear facilities, hospitals, and research laboratories

  • Pigments and coatings: Magnetite is used as a black iron oxide pigment in paints, primers, anti-corrosion coatings, and toner for printers and copiers

  • Catalyst support: Magnetite serves as a catalyst or catalyst carrier in industrial chemical processes including ammonia synthesis (Haber process) and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis

Quality Assurance

Each lot includes a Certificate of Analysis reporting Fe (total), Fe₃O₄, FeO, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, P, S, TiO₂, MnO, CaO, MgO, LOI, moisture, magnetic susceptibility, and size distribution. Pre-shipment samples are provided for buyer approval. Third-party inspection (SGS, Intertek, or equivalent) can be arranged on request.

Why Source From Pakistan?

Pakistan has commercially viable magnetite deposits across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and the northern geological formations. Magnetic separation plants near the mine sites upgrade raw ore into high-grade concentrates meeting international pellet feed and blast furnace specifications. Competitive mining and processing costs, combined with efficient logistics through Karachi port, make Pakistani magnetite a cost-effective alternative to traditional suppliers. The ore’s strong magnetic properties enable clean, efficient beneficiation with high recovery rates, producing a consistent product. DaaTrade manages sourcing, grade verification, magnetic separation quality control, packaging, documentation and shipment through one export desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Magnetite (Fe₃O₄) is strongly magnetic and contains up to 72% Fe in pure form. Hematite (Fe₂O₃) is non-magnetic and contains up to 70% Fe in pure form. Magnetite can be efficiently upgraded through magnetic separation to produce high-grade concentrates (65-68% Fe), while hematite typically relies on gravity separation. Magnetite releases heat during reduction in blast furnaces (exothermic), improving energy efficiency. It is also the preferred feedstock for pellet plants due to lower fuel consumption during pellet induration. Pakistan has both types, with magnetite deposits concentrated in the northern and western regions.

A: Yes. We supply finely ground magnetite powder for dense media separation (DMS/HMS) applications in coal washing and mineral beneficiation plants. The material is magnetically separated, dried, and milled to your required fineness (typically 80-90% passing 325 mesh / 45 microns). Key parameters like specific gravity, magnetic content, and particle size distribution are tested and reported. Pre-shipment samples are available for testing in your plant before placing a full order.

A: Our magnetite concentrates range from 62% to 68% Fe depending on the level of magnetic separation and the source ore grade. Standard grades are 62-64% Fe (single-pass magnetic separation), 64-66% Fe (multi-pass), and 66-68% Fe (premium pellet-grade). All concentrates are tested for Fe (total), Fe₃O₄ content, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, P, S, and particle size distribution. Please specify your target Fe content and end-use application when requesting a quote.
