Product Details

Brown Onyx from Pakistan

Brown Onyx is a translucent banded calcite mineral formed by rhythmic mineral deposition in underground cavities. The stone’s warm palette is created by varying concentrations of iron oxide and organic compounds within the calcite layers. The result is a tightly banded stone with flowing diagonal striations in chocolate brown, caramel, tan, cream, and occasional grey and olive tones. The layered texture gives Brown Onyx a natural, organic appearance resembling cross-cut wood grain or sedimentary sandstone layers. Pakistan’s Balochistan province produces Brown Onyx with exceptionally well-defined banding and consistent earthy coloration.

Available Forms

  • Raw Blocks: quarry-extracted, for processing at the importer’s facility

  • Slabs: cut to standard or custom dimensions, 15-20 mm for backlighting, 20-30 mm for standard use

  • Tiles: 30x30, 60x60, 120x60 cm and custom formats

  • Backlit panels: slabs cut to 10-15 mm for maximum light transmission, with mesh backing

  • Custom shapes: circular, oval, curved, and bookmatched pairs

Surface Finishes

Polished, Honed, Brushed. Polished finish deepens the brown tones and emphasizes the banding contrast. Honed finish gives a softer, more muted natural look.

Industrial Uses

  • Backlit feature walls: Brown Onyx panels over LED light boxes produce a warm, amber-brown glow with the banding pattern creating a natural light-and-shadow effect. The result is a sophisticated, earthy atmosphere suited for hotel lobbies, luxury residential living rooms, wine cellars, premium restaurants, and executive lounges

  • Luxury feature walls (non-backlit): Large-format polished slabs as statement walls in penthouse interiors, corporate offices, boardrooms, private libraries, and cigar lounges. The earthy tones and natural banding create a warm, grounded atmosphere

  • Bar and reception counters: Backlit or standard-lit Brown Onyx countertops, bar fascia, and display surfaces for hotels, wine bars, whisky lounges, and steakhouse restaurants

  • Bathroom and spa interiors: Feature walls, vanity surfaces, and accent panels. Brown Onyx’s warm, earthy palette creates a natural, grounding atmosphere in spa treatment rooms and luxury bathrooms

  • Flooring: Polished Brown Onyx floor tiles in low-traffic luxury areas such as private lounges, wine tasting rooms, master suites, and executive offices

  • Fireplace surrounds: Polished or backlit Brown Onyx as a warm, inviting fireplace surround complementing wood and leather interiors

  • Furniture and decorative objects: Brown Onyx tabletops, console surfaces, lamp bases, serving trays, coasters, and decorative accessories. The earthy tones make Brown Onyx objects highly versatile in home decor

  • Column cladding and architectural accents: Polished wraps for interior columns, pillar bases, window sills, and staircase elements

Quality Assurance

Each shipment can be supplied with a material inspection report. Translucency grading (A, B, C) and banding intensity grading are available. Third-party pre-shipment inspection (SGS or equivalent) can be arranged on request. All slabs are resin-treated and mesh-backed for structural reinforcement. Slab selection, bookmatching, banding direction matching, and color matching services are available.

Why Source From Pakistan?

Pakistan is a leading global source of Brown Onyx, with Balochistan quarries producing blocks with exceptionally well-defined diagonal banding and consistent earthy coloration. The stone’s warm, neutral palette makes it one of the most versatile onyx varieties for a wide range of interior styles, from contemporary to rustic to classic. Pakistani Brown Onyx offers vivid banding and strong translucency at a competitive FOB price compared to Turkish and Iranian alternatives. Modern processing facilities produce resin-treated, mesh-backed slabs ready for backlighting and architectural installation. DaaTrade manages sourcing, banding grading, color matching, slab selection, quality verification, samples and export through one desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Golden Onyx features dominant honey-gold and amber tones with flowing, wave-like bands. Brown Onyx has a deeper, earthier palette of chocolate brown, caramel, and tan with tighter, more linear diagonal banding that resembles natural wood grain or sedimentary layers. Golden Onyx produces a brighter, more radiant backlit effect, while Brown Onyx creates a warmer, more grounded amber-brown glow. The choice depends on whether the design calls for a bright, warm atmosphere (Golden) or a rich, earthy, cozy ambiance (Brown).

A: Yes. The direction of banding (diagonal, horizontal, vertical) depends on how the slab is cut from the block. We offer banding direction selection so your slabs match your design layout. We also grade banding intensity: “tight band” slabs have thin, closely spaced parallel striations, while “broad band” slabs have wider, more separated layers. Bookmatched pairs with mirrored banding are available for feature wall installations. Slab photos are shared for approval before final processing.

A: Warm white LEDs (2700-3000K) are ideal for Brown Onyx as they complement the stone’s natural earthy warmth and produce a rich, inviting amber-brown glow. Neutral white (3500K) also works well for a slightly cleaner, more contemporary look. Cool white LEDs are not recommended as they can flatten the brown tones. We recommend testing LED samples behind a small piece of your selected onyx before finalizing the lighting specification.
