Product Details

Bran Products from Pakistan

Pakistan operates thousands of flour mills and hundreds of rice processing plants across Punjab and Sindh, generating large volumes of bran byproducts year-round. Wheat bran and de-oiled rice bran are two of the most important and widely traded feed ingredients in global animal nutrition, providing cost-effective protein, fibre, energy, and micronutrients for livestock, poultry, and aquaculture feed formulations.

Two Products Explained

Wheat Bran
Wheat bran is the outer layer (pericarp, aleurone, and seed coat) of the wheat kernel separated during flour milling. It consists of coarse flakes and fine particles with a light tan to golden-brown colour and a mild, slightly nutty aroma. Wheat bran is a moderate-energy, high-fibre, moderate-protein feed ingredient used extensively in dairy cattle, beef cattle, sheep, goat, horse, poultry, and aquaculture rations. It is also used in food-grade applications as a dietary fibre supplement, breakfast cereal ingredient, and bread additive.

De-Oiled Rice Bran (DORB)
Rice bran is the outer layer of the rice kernel removed during rice milling. Fresh rice bran contains 15-22% oil, which is extracted by solvent processing to produce rice bran oil (a premium cooking oil). The residue after oil extraction is de-oiled rice bran (DORB), a fine, sandy-coloured powder with 0.5-1.5% residual fat. DORB is a cost-effective protein and phosphorus source in animal feed, with higher mineral content than wheat bran. It is one of the most widely used feed ingredients in South Asian and Southeast Asian livestock and poultry industries.

Industrial Uses

Wheat Bran:

  • Dairy and beef cattle feed: Wheat bran is a standard ingredient in dairy TMR and beef cattle rations, providing digestible fibre, protein, and phosphorus. It improves rumen function and feed palatability

  • Poultry feed: Used at 5-15% inclusion in broiler and layer feed formulations as a fibre and protein source

  • Horse feed: Wheat bran is a traditional component of horse rations, fed as a bran mash for digestive health

  • Aquaculture feed: Used in fish and shrimp feed formulations as a binder and energy source

  • Food-grade fibre: Food-grade wheat bran is used in high-fibre bread, breakfast cereals, bran muffins, dietary fibre supplements, and functional food products

  • Mushroom substrate: Wheat bran is used as a nitrogen supplement in mushroom cultivation substrates

De-Oiled Rice Bran:

  • Poultry feed: DORB is used at 10-25% inclusion in broiler and layer feed as a cost-effective energy, protein, and phosphorus source

  • Dairy and cattle feed: Used in dairy and beef cattle rations as a filler, fibre source, and phosphorus supplement

  • Aquaculture feed: DORB is a common ingredient in fish and shrimp feed formulations across South and Southeast Asia

  • Pig feed: Used as an energy and fibre source in swine rations

  • Organic fertilizer: DORB is composted or applied directly as an organic soil amendment providing nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium

Quality Assurance

Each lot includes a Certificate of Quality reporting crude protein, crude fibre, fat/oil, moisture, ash, aflatoxin, and bulk density. Pre-shipment samples are provided for buyer evaluation. Material is sourced from verified flour mills (wheat bran) and solvent extraction plants (DORB) with consistent processing and storage standards.

Why Source From Pakistan?

Pakistan operates thousands of flour mills and hundreds of rice processing and solvent extraction plants, generating large, consistent volumes of wheat bran and de-oiled rice bran year-round. Both products are available in commercial quantities at competitive pricing, making Pakistan a reliable supply source for feed mills, livestock operations, and poultry integrators across the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. Established agricultural byproduct export logistics through Karachi port ensure efficient container and bulk vessel shipments. DaaTrade manages sourcing from verified mills, quality testing, packaging, documentation and shipment through one export desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Wheat bran is the outer husk of the wheat kernel removed during flour milling. It has moderate protein (14-17%), moderate fibre (10-13%), and 3-5% fat. It comes in coarse flakes and is lighter in bulk density. De-oiled rice bran (DORB) is the residue after extracting oil from rice bran. It has similar protein (14-18%) but higher fibre (12-16%), higher ash and mineral content (especially phosphorus and silica), and very low residual fat (0.5-1.5%). DORB is denser and more cost-effective per tonne. Both are widely used in animal feed, with wheat bran preferred in cattle and horse rations and DORB preferred in poultry and aquaculture formulations.

A: Yes. Food-grade wheat bran is available from select flour mills that maintain food safety standards (HACCP/ISO 22000) in their bran processing and packaging lines. Food-grade bran is used in high-fibre bread, breakfast cereals, bran muffins, and dietary fibre supplements. It is tested for aflatoxin (< 10 ppb), pesticide residues, and microbiological parameters to meet food safety requirements. Please specify “food grade” when requesting a quote and we will source from certified mills.

A: Yes. We regularly supply mixed containers for importers stocking both products. Each product is separately bagged and labeled. You can also combine bran products with other feed ingredients (corn, wheat, silage) in the same container. Specify the product, quantity split, and packaging preference when submitting your requirement.
