Product Details

Low-Grade Chromite Ore (30–36% Cr₂O₃) from Pakistan

Chromite ore is the only commercial source of chromium, a metal essential in metallurgical, refractory, and chemical industries. Pakistan’s chromite deposits in Balochistan are part of the Tethyan ophiolite belt, one of the world’s most significant chromite-bearing geological formations. Low-grade chromite (30–36% Cr₂O₃) is primarily used in refractory brick production, chemical manufacturing, and foundry applications where metallurgical-grade chrome content is not required.

Typical Composition

  • Cr₂O₃: 30–36%

  • FeO: 18–24%

  • MgO: 10–16%

  • Al₂O₃: 12–18%

  • SiO₂: 3–8%

  • CaO: < 1%

  • Cr:Fe Ratio: 1.5:1 to 2:1

Available Forms

  • Run-of-mine (ROM) lumps: 10–200 mm

  • Crushed lumps: 10–50 mm, 0–10 mm

  • Concentrated fines: 0–3 mm

  • Custom sizing available

Industrial Uses

  • Refractory manufacturing: Chrome-magnesite and magnesite-chrome refractory bricks for steel ladles, cement kilns, and glass furnaces

  • Chemical industry: Production of sodium dichromate, chromic acid, chromium sulfate, and other chromium chemicals

  • Foundry sand: Chromite sand for casting molds and cores in ferrous and non-ferrous foundries

  • Pigments and dyes: Raw material for chrome-based pigments (chrome green, chrome yellow)

  • Welding electrode coatings: Chromite fines used as a flux component in welding rod manufacture

Quality Assurance

Each lot includes a Certificate of Analysis reporting Cr₂O₃, FeO, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, MgO, CaO, moisture, and size distribution. Pre-shipment samples are provided for buyer approval. Third-party inspection (SGS or equivalent) can be arranged on request.

Why Source From Pakistan?

Pakistan’s Balochistan province sits on one of the most significant chromite belts in the world, with decades of active mining and export history. Low-grade chromite ore is consistently available in commercial volumes from multiple mining operations. Short inland transport distances to Karachi port, competitive mining costs, and an established export logistics chain make Pakistani chromite a reliable and cost-effective source for refractory and chemical manufacturers globally. DaaTrade’s mine-to-port service includes grade verification, sizing, packaging, documentation and shipment coordination through one export desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Our low-grade chromite typically contains 30–36% Cr₂O₃, sourced from active mines in Balochistan’s Muslim Bagh and Khanozai chromite belt. The exact Cr₂O₃ percentage and full chemical analysis are reported on the Certificate of Analysis for each lot. We can supply lots within a narrower Cr₂O₃ range (e.g. 32–34%) subject to availability and order volume.

A: Metallurgical-grade chromite typically has 42%+ Cr₂O₃ and a Cr:Fe ratio above 2.5:1, and is used primarily in ferrochrome and stainless steel production. Low-grade chromite (30–36% Cr₂O₃) has a lower Cr:Fe ratio and higher gangue content, making it more suited for refractory, chemical, and foundry applications where ultra-high chromium content is not required. Low-grade is also more cost-effective for these end uses.

A: Yes. We regularly arrange bulk vessel shipments of 3,000–10,000 MT for large refractory and chemical buyers. Ore is loaded loose at Karachi Port or Port Qasim. For containerized shipments, we load in 1 MT jumbo bags or 50 kg bags in 20' or 40' containers. Please specify your preferred shipping method and quantity when requesting a quote.
