Product Details

Copper Oxide Ore from Pakistan

Copper oxide ore occurs in the near-surface oxidized zones of copper deposits where primary sulphide minerals have been weathered and altered by exposure to air and water over geological time. The resulting oxide minerals malachite (green), azurite (blue), cuprite (red-brown), and chrysocolla (blue-green) are visually distinctive and often carry commercially viable copper content. Pakistan’s copper-bearing geological formations in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa host both sulphide and oxide mineralization, with oxide ores typically found in the upper portions of the deposits.

Available Forms

  • Run-of-mine (ROM) lumps: 0–300 mm

  • Crushed ore: 0–50 mm, 0–25 mm

  • Hand-sorted high-grade lumps: 50–200 mm (10–20% Cu)

  • Custom sizing available

Key Minerals

  • Malachite (Cu₂CO₃(OH)₂) — green copper carbonate, most common oxide copper mineral

  • Azurite (Cu₃(CO₃)₂(OH)₂) — deep blue copper carbonate

  • Cuprite (Cu₂O) — red-brown copper oxide

  • Chrysocolla (CuSiO₃·2H₂O) — blue-green copper silicate

  • Tenorite (CuO) — black copper oxide

  • Limonite (FeOOH) — iron oxide gangue

Industrial Uses

  • Acid leaching (SX-EW): Copper oxide ores are highly amenable to sulphuric acid heap leaching followed by solvent extraction and electrowinning to produce LME-grade copper cathode — the most common processing route for oxide ores globally

  • Vat leaching: Higher-grade oxide ore crushed to fine size is leached in agitated vats for faster copper dissolution and higher recovery rates

  • Direct smelting: High-grade oxide ore (15%+ Cu) can be directly charged into blast furnaces, reverberatory furnaces, or electric arc furnaces for copper matte or blister copper production

  • Cement copper (cementation): Copper-bearing leach solutions are contacted with scrap iron to precipitate cement copper powder for further refining

  • Copper chemicals: Leach solutions can be processed to produce copper sulphate, copper chloride, copper hydroxide, and other copper-based chemicals

  • Ornamental and specimen use: Malachite and azurite specimens with attractive banding and colour are valued for decorative stone, jewellery, and mineral collecting

Quality Assurance

Each lot includes a Certificate of Analysis reporting Cu, Fe, SiO₂, Al₂O₃, CaO, S, As, Pb, Zn, moisture, and particle size distribution. Assays are performed by accredited laboratories using ICP-OES, AAS, or XRF methods. Pre-shipment samples are provided for buyer approval. Third-party inspection (SGS, Intertek, Alex Stewart, or equivalent) can be arranged. Umpire assay provisions are available for large contracts.

Why Source From Pakistan?

Pakistan’s copper deposits in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa carry substantial near-surface oxide mineralization that is actively mined by small-to-medium scale operators. Copper oxide ore is easier and cheaper to extract than deep sulphide ore, keeping mine-gate costs competitive. The ore is also simpler to process through acid leaching compared to the energy-intensive smelting required for sulphide ores. Proximity to Karachi port and established mineral export logistics make Pakistani copper oxide ore a cost-effective feedstock for leaching operations and smelters across Asia, the Middle East, and China. DaaTrade manages the full supply chain — sourcing, grade verification, sampling, packaging, documentation and shipment — through one export desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Copper oxide ore contains oxidized copper minerals (malachite, azurite, cuprite) formed by surface weathering, while copper sulphide ore contains primary sulphide minerals (chalcopyrite, bornite, chalcocite) from deeper, unweathered zones. Oxide ores are best processed by acid leaching (SX-EW), which is simpler and lower-cost than the flotation and smelting required for sulphide ores. Oxide ores typically have lower sulphur content, making them easier to handle and ship. However, sulphide ores often carry gold and silver credits that oxide ores may lack.

A: Our copper oxide ore ranges from 3% to 20% Cu depending on the source deposit and degree of hand-sorting. Run-of-mine ore typically assays 3–8% Cu, while hand-sorted high-grade lumps can reach 10–20% Cu. The exact copper percentage and full multi-element assay are reported on the Certificate of Analysis for each lot. We can supply within a narrower Cu range subject to availability and volume commitment.

A: Yes, copper oxide ores are the ideal feedstock for sulphuric acid heap leaching followed by SX-EW processing. The oxide copper minerals dissolve readily in dilute acid, enabling high copper recovery rates (70–90%) at relatively low cost. Our oxide ore is supplied crushed to 0–25 mm or 0–50 mm for optimal heap percolation. We can provide bottle roll or column leach test samples for your metallurgical evaluation before committing to a full order.
