Product Details

Celestite Powder from Pakistan

Celestite powder is produced by finely grinding natural celestite ore (SrSO₄) into a white to off-white powder with controlled particle size. The milling process increases the mineral’s surface area and reactivity, making it directly usable in chemical processing, ceramic formulations, and oilfield drilling applications without further size reduction. Pakistan’s celestite deposits in Balochistan and Sindh yield high-grade ore that is milled into a range of standard powder grades at dedicated grinding plants near the mine sites.

Industrial Uses

  • Strontium carbonate production: Fine celestite powder dissolves faster than lumps in the black ash process and direct carbonation routes, improving conversion rates and reducing processing time for SrCO₃ manufacturers

  • Drilling fluids (weighting agent): Ground celestite is used as a high-density weighting agent in oil and gas drilling muds, serving as an alternative to barite (BaSO₄). Its specific gravity of 3.9-4.0 provides effective borehole pressure control in drilling operations

  • Ceramic and glass: Celestite powder is used as a source of SrO in ceramic glazes, electronic ceramics (strontium titanate, strontium barium titanate), and specialty glass formulations. It improves glaze surface tension, dielectric properties, and glass clarity

  • Pyrotechnics and fireworks: Fine celestite powder is blended into pyrotechnic compositions to produce brilliant red-coloured flames in fireworks, signal flares, and military tracer rounds

  • Ferrite magnet production: Ground celestite is used as a strontium source in the production of strontium ferrite permanent magnets for motors, speakers, and magnetic separators

  • Pigments and coatings: Strontium chromate pigment (corrosion-inhibiting primer) and strontium aluminate pigment (glow-in-the-dark coatings) are produced from celestite-derived strontium compounds

  • Zinc electrolysis: Celestite-derived strontium carbonate is used in zinc electrolyte purification to remove lead impurities and improve zinc cathode quality

  • Sugar refining: Strontium hydroxide produced from celestite is used in the beet sugar refining process

  • Filler and extender: Ground celestite is used as a high-density filler in specialty paints, adhesives, and polymer compounds

Quality Assurance

Each lot includes a Certificate of Analysis reporting SrSO₄, SrO, BaSO₄, CaSO₄, SiO₂, Fe₂O₃, moisture, whiteness, pH, and particle size distribution. Pre-shipment samples are provided for buyer approval. Third-party inspection (SGS, Intertek, or equivalent) can be arranged on request.

Why Source From Pakistan?

Pakistan has celestite deposits with SrSO₄ content up to 96% and dedicated mineral grinding plants producing celestite powder in a range of mesh sizes for domestic and export markets. Competitive raw material and milling costs keep the finished powder attractively priced for strontium chemical producers, drilling fluid manufacturers, and ceramic processors. Celestite powder’s high specific gravity makes it a cost-effective alternative to barite in drilling muds. Established export logistics through Karachi port enable reliable container shipments worldwide. DaaTrade manages sourcing, milling specification, quality testing, packaging, documentation and shipment through one export desk.

Packaging & Shipping

Packaging

  • 25 kg or 50 kg polypropylene bags, palletized and shrink-wrapped

  • 25 kg multi-wall paper sacks, palletized

  • 500 kg or 1000 kg jumbo bags with discharge spout

  • 20' or 40' containers, lined and bulk-loaded

Shipping

Loading port: Karachi Port or Port Qasim. Most orders shipped in 20' or 40' lined containers, FCL or LCL. Celestite powder is non-hazardous and dense, so container weight limits are typically reached before volume. Incoterms: FOB, CFR, CIF. Documents: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin, Certificate of Analysis, Material Safety Data Sheet, Bill of Lading.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: Our celestite powder contains 80-96% SrSO₄ and is available in 100, 200, 325, 400, and 600 mesh sizes. Custom grinds finer than 600 mesh can be produced on request. Higher SrSO₄ grades (90-96%) are sourced from select deposits and hand-sorted ore. The exact SrSO₄ percentage, BaSO₄ level, whiteness, and particle size distribution are reported on the Certificate of Analysis for each lot.

A: Yes. Celestite powder (specific gravity 3.9-4.0) can be used as a weighting agent in drilling muds as an alternative to barite (specific gravity 4.2-4.5). While celestite is slightly less dense than barite, it provides effective borehole pressure control and is often more readily available at competitive pricing in certain markets. Some operators use a celestite-barite blend to optimize mud weight and cost. The low iron content of celestite powder also makes it preferred in certain drilling conditions.

A: Celestite lumps are the raw mined and crushed ore in 10-250 mm sizes, primarily used as feedstock for strontium carbonate production in the black ash process. Celestite powder is the same ore milled to fine mesh sizes (100-600 mesh), offering much higher surface area and reactivity. Powder is preferred for applications requiring direct use without further grinding, such as drilling muds, ceramic formulations, pyrotechnic compositions, and chemical processing where faster dissolution rates are needed.
